FAQ General Information

What’s included in Pondok Bahasa content?

Pondok Bahasa delivers a complete Indonesian language program tailored to the Australian Curriculum. The program includes:

  • Video Lessons: Teaching key language concepts through real-world scenarios.
  • Practice Videos: Reinforcing learning with interactive guided activities.
  • Student Activities: Linked to Practice Videos, reinforcing concepts from Video Lessons.
  • Independent Activities: Providing structured and creative tasks for independent skill mastery.
Does Pondok Bahasa meet privacy and compliance requirements across Australian states and territories?

Yes, Pondok Bahasa has been carefully designed by Australian and Indonesian educators with a deep understanding of the educational landscapes across all Australian states and territories. This includes awareness of varying privacy and operational requirements in both public and private school systems.

The platform adheres to the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) under the Privacy Act 1988 and ensures that all data, including student information, is stored securely on Australian servers. While schools and institutions are ultimately responsible for ensuring that any resources they adopt align with their internal policies, Pondok Bahasa’s framework has been informed by current best practices across the nation.

For educators or administrators seeking further information, our team can provide additional details or assist with any queries regarding compliance.

How does the $15 per term cost compare to traditional textbook resources like Kenalilah, Saling Silang, and Bima?

Pondok Bahasa is competitively priced compared to traditional resources:

  • Kenalilah: Textbook ($77 for two years) averages $9.63 per term, with the workbook ($30-$40 per year) adding $7.50-$10 per term, totalling $17.13-$19.63 per term. First published in 2002.
  • Saling Silang: Priced at $60-$70 per year, averaging $15-$18 per term. First published in 2012.
  • Bima: Typically ranges from $70-$80 per year for the student book and workbook, averaging $17.50-$20 per term. First published in 2018.

At $15 per term, Pondok Bahasa provides access to regularly updated, interactive video lessons and authentic cultural content, integrating seamlessly with the Australian Curriculum.

Can teachers request that Pondok Bahasa be added to their school’s booklist?

Yes! If your school has a limited budget for subscriptions, a great strategy is to include Pondok Bahasa in the school’s booklist, allowing families to cover the $15 per term per student cost, similar to how textbooks and workbooks are typically purchased.

To propose this:

  • Highlight the subscription cost as competitive with traditional textbooks while offering access to modern, interactive, and Australian Curriculum-aligned content.
  • Explain that Pondok Bahasa replaces multiple resources with a single subscription, simplifying resource needs for the course.
  • Emphasise that Pondok Bahasa is fully compliant with Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). All student data is securely stored on Australian servers, meeting stringent privacy and security standards for minors in schools.

This approach allows schools to adopt a modern solution without exceeding tight budgets.

How is student progress tracked?

The Canvas LMS provides tools for tracking student engagement, activity completion, and performance on assessments. Teachers can access these insights to monitor both individual and group progress.

How do I get support if I encounter issues?

Pondok Bahasa provides:

  • Email support via its website for all subscription types.
  • Additional WhatsApp and email support details available within each course.

Subscription Management

What does "flexible start dates" mean?

Flexible start dates make it easy for schools to manage language classes across different terms or semesters, ensuring smooth transitions and optimised use of resources. For example, if Class 7A studies Indonesian in Term 1 and Class 7B studies in Term 3, the administrator can renew the subscription after Term 1, updating student numbers and setting the start date for Term 3.

How to stagger your school’s course start dates?

Administrators or teachers must renew subscriptions within two weeks before the course end date. Upon renewal, administrators can:

  • Nominate new start dates for the next group of students.
  • Specify the number of students for the upcoming term/semester.
  • Adjust the subscription to match the new group and pay for their licences.

This system allows schools to manage multiple groups across the year while maintaining control over costs and scheduling.

What happens if I miss the renewal window?

If the subscription is not renewed within two weeks before the course end date, access will expire. A new subscription will need to be purchased to regain access.

Can I upgrade and add more students mid-term?

Yes. The account administrator can increase the number of student licences at any time. Simply click on 'Upgrade Plan' in the 'My Subscriptions' section of your dashboard and follow the prompts. Additional licences will be applied immediately upon payment.

Customisation and Plans

How do changes to courses work?
  • School Quarterly and Half-Yearly Plans: Changes made by a teacher to a course will apply across all classes using that course. This ensures consistency in course delivery across the school. However, school administrators can duplicate a Pondok Bahasa course within their account to create customised versions. Changes made to these customised versions will only apply to the specific duplicated course.
  • Individual Class/Course Subscriptions: Changes made by the teacher will only affect their specific class, allowing complete customisation

Important:

For individual control over courses separate from school-wide changes, administrators of a Pondok Bahasa account can duplicate and customise courses directly in Canvas by using the "Copy Course" feature under "Settings." This ensures that changes remain limited to the duplicated version. Please see CANVAS documentation on how to achieve this (How do I copy a Canvas course into a new course sh... - Instructure Community - 712).

What happens if I want to transfer licences for students who have left?

Transfer of licences is not possible during an active subscription period. If new students need to be added, additional licences must be purchased separately.

For Home schoolers

Who is the Homeschooled Student plan best suited for?

The plan is ideal for:

  • Secondary students capable of independent study.
  • Upper primary students with the social maturity and readiness for self-directed learning.
  • Students who are able to self-check their work effectively
What proof of home-schooling is required?

Documentation or certification proving home-schooling status is required, depending on your state or territory. Examples include:

  • NSW: Certificate of registration for homeschooling.
  • VIC: Certificate of registration for homeschooling.
  • QLD: Certificate of registration for home education.
  • SA: School exemption approval.
  • WA: Certificate of registration for homeschooling.
  • TAS: Certificate of registration for homeschooling.
  • ACT: Certificate of registration for homeschooling.
  • NT: Certificate of registration for home education.

Teacher Preparation and Training

How do I access course content early?

Teachers with Canvas LMS access can view and modify course content two weeks before the official start date. This allows time for lesson preparation and adjustments to meet class needs.

Do you offer individualised teacher training?

No, but Pondok Bahasa provides comprehensive resources to support teachers, including:

  • A Canvas guide for managing courses and content.
  • A Pondok Bahasa guide for navigating the program.

Canvas also offers extensive online documentation and instructional videos. For frequently asked questions, teachers will be directed to these resources to ensure they have access to the most accurate and up-to-date instructions.

Teachers are encouraged to explore these guides and materials independently to maximise their ability to customise and manage their courses effectively.
